For the 2010-2011 season WCYHA U-8 skaters (Mites and Mini-Mites) will take part in a local Red, White and Blue hockey (Cross-Ice) league with Arrowhead, Elmbrook and Ozaukee youth hockey associations. The formation of this new league was created after several meetings and conversations with local Region 5 associations, USA Hockey and WAHA representatives.
At the conclusion of the 2009-2010 season a committee of coaches and parents was assembled to discuss the Mite program for the up coming season. An initial program was created and presented to the Coaches Committee and the Board of Directors. Both the Coaches Committee and the Board of Directors made some suggestions to the initial plan. Based on those recommendations a second committee was created from representative of the other local organizations. Based on the recommendations of this second committee a final plan was presented to and approved by the WCYHA Board of Directors. The major guidelines of this plan have been agreed upon by the 4 associations in the new Red, White and Blue hockey league.
The creation of this league and the adoption of many of the components of the USA Hockey ADM program for our U-8 skaters present many positives not only for our skaters but the long term viability of WCYHA. Red, White and Blue hockey focuses on the fundamental development of our skater for their long term success in hockey. Also, reduces travel, cost and commitment which may prevent a skater and their family from trying the game of hockey. Provides a fun atmosphere for skaters to learn and fall in love with the hockey. For WCYHA it creates a positive atmosphere to attract new families and skaters to the association.
We know there will be a number of questions regarding this change to our program and we will try to answer all questions in a timely manner. In addition a link will be created on the web site that will direct you to several pieces of information on Red, White and Blue hockey and the numerous benefits of the program.
The intention of this notice is to provide you with the basic plan for our associations U-8 skaters prior to the registration process.
We look forward to another successful year at WCYHA.
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors WCYHA
